The freezer's temperature fluctuated between -20 and +30, and its operation was inconsistent. I swapped out the thermostat, excluding only the capillary pipe, which was stuck in its fitting. After allowing it to sit unplugged until the ice in the cap tube melted, I gently pulled on the cap pipe until it dislodged and slipped out. I then installed the new thermostat and sealed the end of the tube with putty.
