(Large Staffordshire Hand Painted Surprise Mug Frog Early Victorian Prattware) Made in Staffordshire England during the 1800’s. This mug is in very good condition. There are small frits on the mug that goes with the look, no chips anywhere. It was made it the 1900's. The liquid runs through the mouth of the frog. This is a large (Measures 5” tall and 6” wide (12.5 x 15 centimetres)). Now this mug is dishwasher safe, and is Ceramic, on top of that it is easy to clean.
The story behind these type of mugs is Victorian Innkeepers in England were concerned that to many people where getting drunk and loud at night. Hence such tankards were introduced with a hidden frog at the bottom. So as the people drank a frog would emerge from their drink and they would not want to drink anymore.
