Susan Rothenberg, renowned for her expressive Western landscapes and animal, especially horse, paintings, studied at Cornell University and spent her early career in New York. In 1990, she moved to New Mexico, where she lives with artist Bruce Nauman, drawing inspiration from the surroundings. Rothenberg, influential since the 1970s, began as a 'new imagist' painter, blending abstraction and representation.
